READ DESCRIPTION!!!!- Bearded Dragon Underbite?
My bearded dragon has somehow developed an under bite after 6 months of age. So far he's, almost 2 years and although this is quite late to announce this, I have heard from various sources that an under bite in a reptile typically indicates MBD; he had and still has no further symptoms. Ever since I got him, I have always fed him a nice supply of crickets, butter worms and super worms as well as a bowl of collard greens and a side of one of the following fruits each night: strawberries, mangos, tomatoes, bananas, and apples (on occasion). To add to this, every time I feed him, I will always provide him with calcium powder and along with having UVB's, to allow him to process the calcium through his body more efficiently. Would this under bite be MBD, or a genetic mutation? I have no clue..........
Typically, any bone deformity can be contributed to MBD. It sounds like your husbandry has been good. Have you ALWAYS given calcium and had a UVB? Even lacking in UVB or calcium in the first few months can cause problems down the line. Another big issue, exactly which brand and type of UVB do you use and how old is your bulb? Unfortunately, most UVB bulbs on the market are not good quality and can cause health problems in dragons. All compact coil bulbs are dangerous, and the only recommended linear fluorescent bulb is the ReptiSUN 10.0 (not ReptiGLO) in the US or the Arcadia 12% in the UK (http://www.uvguide.co.uk) And a fluorescent bulb needs to be replaced every 6 months, so if you have ever used an older bulb, that could contribute to the problem.
The only other issue I see (which would have nothing to do with the jaw thing) is that you seem to be feeding too much fruit. Fruit should be considered a snack and only fed occasionally. Instead of fruit, use some other healthy veggies to go with your greens, like squash. Here is a good site to show which bugs and veggies you should feed your dragon (and which ones you shouldn't!):

As long as you have one of the good UVB's and are taking care of him as well as you have been, he'll be fine with or without the underbite. It could be just a fluke, it does happen. As long as he can chew his food, there is nothing to be worried about.
I have a poor little dragon who came to me with SEVERE MBD, and his jaw is malformed with a huge underbite. The problem is that his teeth don't line up, so he can't really chew. He can munch veggies in small pieces pretty well and tiny bugs, like the smallest of dubia roaches or phoenix worms. He just kind of gums them to death and swallows them whole, which is why they have to be small. I actually had him on babyfood until I figured out he could gum those phoenix worms and get them down.
Here are a couple pics of Freddie. Isn't that the cutest ugly face you ever did see? ![]()
