How does the flower myths of Hyacinth, Adonis, and Narcissus follow the death/resurrection idea?
This is a greek mythology topic that I have to write an essay about. I would appreciate any type of information on how the flower myths of Hyacinth, Adonis, and Narcissus follow the death/resurrection idea. Please and thanks. Any information would be highly appreciated!
For Hyacinth, he was a lover of Apollo, and one day they were throwing around the discus and it killed Hyacinth. Apollo, greatly grieved, did not let Hades take Hyacinth, instead, he turned Hyacinth's blood into a flower. With Adonis, he was killed by a wild boar and his lover, Aphrodite, sprinkled his blood with nectar, turning it into an anemone. Finally, Narcissus was a very beautiful human. Every girl wanted him. Aphrodite became jealous and asked her son, Eros (Cupid) to cause him to fall in love with someone. So Eros shot Narcissus with an arrow. However, the first person Narcissus saw was himself in a pond. Whenever he tried to reach out to touch the beautiful being he saw in the pond (himself), it would disappear. So he stayed at the pond until he ended up withering away. He died and when the nymphs came to find his body, all they found a flower. So each of the humans came back through this flowers, resurrecting them.
