oils butter
margarine, oils, spreads, sticks, butter, lard or shortening! Which do you prefer?

I get so confused about cooking oils, spreads, sticks and butter!!!
First they say use butter for cooking because its the real deal and it has a better taste, then they say use margarine because butter burns too quickly, then they say don't use butter... use cooking oil for deep frying but use it for baking but not sauteing. Alot of people use butter spreads but you shouldn't use butter spreads for baking b/c they have more water and oil in them.
Now they've got a brand new product called I Can't Belive It is Not Butter Cooking & baking sticks that you can use like butter. So I don't know.
I guess it depends what you're cooking but What do you guys use for frying, deep frying, cooking, grilling, frying, baking, sauteing or just a slice of warm toast?

Olive oil

I was brought up using natural products always, so have never used "cooking sprays", but do now use margarine. We bought dairy milk, made our own butter out of the cream sitting on top, etc. You should check-out a "Misto", which is a very handy pump-style oil sprayer, and you can fill it with olive oils, vegetable oil, vinegars (for spritzing salad greens), etc. I own 5

Frying: Olive oil, butter, bacon drippings, or vegetable oil.

Deep frying: Olive oil, vegetable oil, or crisco shortening.

Cooking: Totally depends upon what dish I am making, i.e., olive oil, peanut oil, sesame oil, butter, or bacon drippings.

Grilling: Olive oil (using a Misto), or butter on breads.

Baking: Vegetable oil if called for (substitute applesauce when I can), butter, or bacon drippings/olive oil in vegetable dishes.

Sauteing: Olive oil, peanut oil, vegetable oil when necessary, and butter.
